What Makes This Program Different From the Rest?


The Live the Life YOU Want program is a personal development/growth program. It was inspired by a number of people over the course of more than twenty years, telling me they have had enough of being told “what” they needed to be doing in their lives, without being given a tangible “how.”

Some Background

I was born to a totally dysfunctional family – parents who fought almost every day of their marriage, a father who was a physical abuser, and a mum who was the mental/emotional abuser.

 

Ultimately, I came to a point where I couldn’t handle any more, and after a session where both parents worked on me for over an hour one day, I decided to do the one thing I did have the power to do – I would take my own life.  I was around 8 years old at the time.

 

Armed with a shotgun, I went up the hill that overlooked the house and tried for about ten minutes to pull the triggers, but every time I thrust my thumb inside the trigger guard, it would pull back and refuse to strike.  In frustration, I remembered that the shotgun could be made to fire just by banging the butt on the ground - so I started slamming it into the ground.

 

When even that didn’t work, I finally broke down completely.  This was the worst day of my life because here was the final proof, that everything my Mum had said about me was true – I was SO useless I couldn’t even do the one thing that had the power to end it all.

 

And that was one of the most important days of my life because out of it came the realization, that whatever happened to me from there on was my fault – there was no one to blame but me. So I took full responsibility from that day on, for whatever happened in my life and that is something we ALL must do, if we ever want to be the best we can be

 

Some of the obstacles that I have faced and overcome include:

  • I was raised in an environment of constant physical, mental, & emotional abuse
  • I left school with no educational qualifications
  • I believed that I was entirely “on my own” in this world and didn’t have the right to ask for help
  • I carried a tremendous amount of fear and anger
  • Having been told many times, I genuinely believed that I was “born useless” – no self esteem
  • I had nothing to offer anyone so how could I ever hope to attract a "life partner", and
  • Worst of all - I had no hope – what could possibly change in the life of a person who had no qualifications and was “born useless” anyway – you can‟t get “reborn”

 

 As a result of my upbringing I had left home with no self-esteem whatsoever, and all of the problems that go with that. I thought I was on my own in this world and had to do everything by myself – and I did.

I was so grateful for absolutely anything that helped me along the way though, that I etched those things indelibly in my mind – never to be forgotten. Those things have become the basis of everything that I teach and practice, whether it is through offering personal coaching, seminars, books, or programs such as “Live the Life YOU Want”

Why Listen to Me?


Today, I’m living a life that I previously couldn’t have dreamed of. I’ve achieved every personal and commercial goal I’ve set for myself to date – from being rated amongst the top 0.01% of salespersons in the world, to being an undefeated martial arts champion, to starting, building, and selling several successful companies - and I have won accolades from individuals and businesses from all over the world. I also believe I have my life partner, and I have two gorgeous kids as a bonus. All this from someone who used to rate himself as an amoeba on the scale of life.

So how did this happen?

This is the exciting bit. I’ve achieved all of this because of many wonderful tools I picked up along the way. The reason I find this exciting is because if my achievement was because I was “special,” then I couldn’t help anyone else - could I? Tools are something I can share with everyone. And I can teach YOU to use them, to take you to the same success that I’ve found, and perhaps even beyond.

I have worked with people and organizations from around the world ranging from housewives and children to CEOs of top multinational corporations. And through this all, I have helped them achieve their greatest potentials, often not by adding anything new to their lives, because really our lives are busy and complex enough as is, but by removing the barriers that stood in their way.

My philosophy is that the simpler and more practical the approach to solving an issue, the easier and more permanent the solution.


What Specifically Is Covered in the Program?

 

To give you an idea of what’s involved, I’ll take you through some of the topics covered…

 

  • A “Personal Life Chart.” This is something you create to help you clarify in your own mind, just where you are in relation to the important things in your life at this point, and where you‟d like to be.

  • There is also a “Personal Evaluation” which is a more detailed list of questions that once again - you rate yourself on. Having filled it out, the Evaluation is put aside.

    You will repeat that half way through the program, and again at the end. The purpose of this is that we often don’t see the changes in ourselves, and even when friends tell us they see “huge changes”, we really don’t believe them. When you review your own evaluations at the appropriate times however, you may be very surprised at the differences and you will not be able to deny them - because they are your words.

  • At the front of the book you’ll have a “Personal Discoveries” page, a “Things To Work On” sheet, and an “Action plan.” They’re kept separate from the body of the program, because you’ll come back to them regularly as we move forward.

    The Personal Discoveries page is there to note anything that you learn about yourself as the program unfolds – things that will perhaps help you to see yourself differently, or in a more positive light. The “Things To Work On” sheet is a list of those  observations that you make, that you feel you need to work on. And the Action Plan is about what you’re prepared to commit to working on now, and in the foreseeable future.

 

There’ll also be a number of wonderful stories that you are guided to read at appropriate points throughout the program.

 

Following is a summary of the chapters in the program:


Getting the most

Getting the most is all about helping you to get the most possible (for you), out of the program. Essentially, we look at all the things that will attempt to hold you back, what you can do about that, and we’ll explore a really interesting concept related to “no small” (or insignificant) things.

 

Ego

This section will begin the process of understanding perhaps the greatest, (and probably the most negative) contributor, to the experiences of our lives. The purpose here is to give you the power to take your life back, by returning the ego to the role that it was originally intended to play.

 

What it is to be human

Unfortunately, the “positive thinking brigade” has made many people feel there is “something wrong” with them if they don’t feel positive all the time. What it is to be human will get you to review how you view your life to date – positive and negative, and later in the book (when you have more “understanding” and some tools to work with) you will return and apply some of the tools, to changing the balances here.

 

The purpose of this section is to identify:

  • Where your personal high/low self esteem originates
  • What causes your up times – down times
  • The environments leading to the times we cope Vs the times we don’t
  • What obligations/challenges you individually relish Vs those you resent - even fear
  • Why, and How to deal with confrontation

 

Looking at yourself

In this chapter, we get you to look at some of the things that have led you to the life you’ve lived, & we write these down as part of the Personal Discoveries page. Most of these things we deal with right away - but we do come back where appropriate.

 

No small things

One of the things that provides an endless source of challenges for us is our penchant for brushing things off, as “small” or “insignificant.” This module addresses some of those things and raises awareness of the risks we take when we don’t treat things with the seriousness that they deserve.

 

Understanding needs

This is one of the most powerful sections of the whole program. The information here will give you the power to not only change how life impacts you, but your impact on other people too.

 

Dealing with stress/How to relax

Most people by far, are experts in stressing out but very few people it seems, really know how to relax. And that’s at least partly a result of the things in your life that stand in the way of relaxation. We’ll identify some of those things and also raise some interesting thoughts with regard to stress.


I’m sure most people would agree that the symptoms of stress are much easier to deal with than the causes. So the intent here is to provide you with some tools that will help you to relieve those symptoms in the interim.


Ultimately you have to deal with the causes however, and our purpose is to allow you to identify and begin addressing, the causes of your stress.

 

Dealing with conflict

Conflict is a major contributor to stress which we look at from a physical perspective, and then take what we learn, back into the mental and emotional areas.

 

EFT

One of the reasons that so many courses, diets and so on “don’t work” is because it’s not always possible in a course, to root out the ultimate causes of the behaviours that lead to obesity, „failure‟, etc. EFT is a phenomenal technique that is changing the mode of “healing” all over the world.

 

Love & relationships

This of course is what most of life is all about, and once again, most people I find are totally confused. We do our best to remove most if not all of that confusion, and at the least – you will know what true love is, and how to measure that in your own relationships.

 

Problem solving

What I do here is to share a template with you that I developed many years ago. This will allow you to address and resolve, almost any problem you may encounter from there on.

 

Attitude

The purpose here is to provide you with an understanding of how much of what you perceive to be “good” or “bad” / “positive” or “negative” in your life, may have been, (and may still be being), caused by your own attitude.

 

Enthusiasm

One thing I will never understand is why anyone would not want to be enthusiastic. So the purpose here is to provide you with an understanding of what enthusiasm means for you, the positive effects of enthusiasm on every part of our lives, and how to be enthusiastic, just as much of the time as you want.

 

What do “I” want most out of life

It’s really important to understand that so much of our inability to achieve in life, comes down to not knowing what we really want from life.

 

Goals

Without goals there is no direction in life. In this section we learn about the importance of setting goals, and how to set goals that you’ll actually apply yourself to, and therefore – achieve.

 

Success

Success is a really interesting one. Many, if not most people don’t actually understand what success really is, and if you don’t understand it – how will you know if you’ve achieved it? We break some of the myths surrounding success, and you’ll ultimately arrive at your own description, and a plan of how you will achieve it.

 

Board of Directors

This is an unbelievably powerful part of the program. The intention is to provide you with an appreciation of the fact that almost no one, is truly “alone” in this world. Taking advantage of this knowledge has made an awesome difference in several people’s lives already.

 

Personality types

It surprises me that we don’t find it even harder to get along with other people than we do, when we know so little about them. And when you think about it, the quality of life almost always comes back to… the quality of our relationships – starting with the relationship we have with ourselves.

The purpose here is to provide you with an appreciation of the different personality types that you’re involved with every day, and how to deal with them for more positive outcomes.

 

Being the best (person) you can be

This is “check in time” where we’ll review what we’ve covered in the program so far, and add some extremely valuable additional pointers.

 

Alignment

In this section I will demonstrate the power of alignment in such a way that you’ll be blown away with the thought of what your life could be, if you apply this concept to it. It is truly amazing





Does it Work?

This is certainly a question I’d be asking in your place and it certainly worked for me. Here are a couple of examples of people who have taken this program and seen a major change in their lives:


Kim in Toronto spent just over an hour with me and she was the one who finally got me doing something about “putting this information on paper.” As she put it – in that one hour, she was given the answers to questions that had been “eating” her up for five years.


In New Zealand, I worked with a lady who would be the most competitive person I have ever met. She would cheat to be at the top, and was intensely disliked by all of her colleagues. I stopped her from committing suicide, and after two hours or so together, she realized that her behaviour was completely misaligned with who she really was.

She quit her job about 3
months later and I eventually got a letter from her about 6 months down the track. She was in Uganda, working with the Red Cross, and had never been happier in her life.

Another gentleman who was on a training course which encompassed another critical component of this program in 1998, jumped three levels of management in a government department if you can believe it, and is now in the job of his dreams – representing New Zealand overseas.

  • He imagines himself as an old man, nearing the end of his life. As he sits and rocks on his patio and contemplates his life, he asks himself four questions.

The "rocking-chair test" helps you take a long-term view of your options.

 

  • The other technique I use is even simpler – I toss a coin. But I do it with a difference. When you toss the coin you’ll suddenly realize that you’re hoping that it turns up heads (or tails perhaps). As soon as that happens, you know what you really want, and you should act on it without ever checking, to see which side actually did come up.

 

It fascinates me how we will invest thousands of dollars in microwaves, TVs, computers, video recorders, stereos, and cars, yet we struggle terribly when it comes to investing in ourselves. The investment in those other things only lasts a few years – this investment in you, should last a lifetime.


Most importantly though… if there is the tiniest doubt, and if you know in your heart that you’re not really willing to commit to changing your life, then you should not do the program! It will only work if you fully expect and intend; to make it work.
